Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Starting the engine

Basic information

1. Apply the parking brake.

2. Confirm that the vehicle is in the P (Park) position.

The Intelligent Key must be inside the vehicle when operating the ignition switch. This is essential for proper system recognition on your Nissan Rogue.

3. Push the ignition switch to the ON position, then depress the brake pedal and press the ignition switch again to start the engine.

To start the engine immediately, press and release the ignition switch while holding the brake pedal, regardless of the current switch position.

CAUTION

Do not operate the starter for more than 15 seconds at a time. If the engine does not start, press the ignition switch to OFF and wait 10 seconds before retrying to avoid damaging the starter.

4. Warm-up

Allow the engine to idle for at least 30 seconds after starting. Do not race the engine during warm-up. Drive moderately at first, especially in cold weather. On a Nissan Rogue driven in winter conditions, keeping the engine running for 2–3 minutes before shutting it off helps prevent hard restarts.

When idling cold with no load, the engine speed is limited to approximately 3,000 rpm.

5. To stop the engine, shift to P (Park) and press the ignition switch to turn it OFF.

NOTE:

To avoid battery discharge and potential no-start situations, reduce long use of electronics when the engine is off (chargers, GPS, DVD players, etc.). Infrequent short-distance driving can also cause low battery charge.

In these situations, periodically charging the battery may be necessary for reliable operation of your Nissan Rogue.

Remote engine start

Vehicles started remotely require the ignition switch to be placed in ON before shifting out of P (Park). To do this:

1. Carry the Intelligent Key with you.

2. Depress the brake pedal.

3. Press the ignition switch once to enter the ON mode.
