Nissan Rogue (T33) 2021-Present Owner’s Manual & User Guide: Seat belts with pretensioners (front and rear outboard seats)

WARNING

The pretensioner system in the Nissan Rogue may activate together with the supplemental air bag system in certain collisions. Working with the seat belt retractor, it helps tighten the seat belt during a qualifying impact, improving occupant restraint for front and rear outboard seating positions.

Each pretensioner is integrated into the seat belt retractor. These seat belts are operated in the same way as traditional seat belts.

When a pretensioner activates, smoke may be released and a loud sound may be heard.

This smoke is not harmful and does not indicate a fire. However, avoid breathing it in, as it may cause irritation or temporary choking. Anyone with a history of respiratory issues should move to fresh air immediately.

After pretensioner activation, load limiters may allow controlled webbing release to help reduce chest forces on the occupant.

The supplemental air bag warning light will illuminate if there is a malfunction in the pretensioner system. See "Supplemental air bag warning light". If the warning light indicates a malfunction, have the system inspected promptly by a NISSAN dealer.

When selling your Nissan Rogue, please inform the buyer about the pretensioner system and direct them to the appropriate safety sections in this Owner's Manual.
