Basic information
WARNING
CAUTION
If Hill Descent Control operates for an extended period, the VDC actuator temperature may rise, causing the system to temporarily disable itself. The HDC indicator will blink. If it does not illuminate steadily afterward, discontinue use.
When activated, the Hill Descent Control system applies smooth braking to maintain a controlled speed on steep or slippery downhill paths without requiring the driver to use the accelerator or brake pedals.
The system assists in maintaining vehicle speed below 15 MPH (25 km/h) when descending steep grades that cannot be controlled by engine braking alone, especially in AWD mode.
When driving forward downhill, speed may be adjusted using the brake or accelerator. In reverse, the system automatically maintains the selected speed.
Hill descent control switch
When extra braking is required on steep declines, activate the system by pressing the Hill Descent Control switch.
Once activated, both the HDC indicator light and the indicator on the meter illuminate. The stop/tail lights will also illuminate as the system controls vehicle speed.
To enable Hill Descent Control, all of the following conditions must be met:
If the brake or accelerator is pressed while HDC is ON, the system temporarily stops. Once released, HDC resumes if all activation conditions are still met.
The HDC indicator light will blink if the switch is ON but system conditions are not satisfied, or if the system disengages unexpectedly.
To turn HDC off, press the switch to the OFF position.
