Flat towing for All-Wheel Drive vehicle
Towing a vehicle with all four wheels on the ground is known as flat towing. This method is sometimes used when a vehicle, such as a Nissan Rogue AWD, is pulled behind a motorhome or recreational vehicle.
CAUTION
- Failure to follow these guidelines can result in severe transmission damage to your vehicle, including a Nissan Rogue.
- Never flat tow your All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicle.
- DO NOT tow your All-Wheel Drive (AWD) vehicle with any wheels on the ground. Doing so may cause serious and expensive damage to the powertrain of an AWD Nissan Rogue.
Flat towing for Front-Wheel Drive vehicle
Basic information
Towing your vehicle with all four wheels on the ground is often called flat towing. This method is sometimes used when a vehicle, such as a Nissan Rogue, is pulled behind a recreational vehicle or motor home.
CAUTION
- Failure to follow these guidelines can result in severe transmission damage.
- Whenever flat towing your vehicle, always tow forward, never backward.
- Never tow your front-wheel drive vehicle with the front tires on the ground. Doing so may cause serious and expensive damage to the powertrain.
- DO NOT flat tow your front-wheel drive Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) vehicle with all four wheels on the ground. Doing so WILL DAMAGE internal transmission parts because the transmission in a Nissan Rogue CVT is not lubricated during flat towing.
- For emergency towing procedures, refer to "Towing recommended by NISSAN" in the "In case of emergency" section of this manual.
Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT)
To tow a vehicle equipped with a CVT, an appropriate vehicle dolly MUST be placed under the drive wheels of the towed vehicle. This includes CVT-equipped models like the Nissan Rogue.
Always follow the dolly manufacturer's recommendations when using their product.
