Basic information

This vehicle is equipped with an Event Data Recorder (EDR). Its primary purpose is to record data in certain crash or near crash-like situations—such as striking an obstacle or deploying the air bags—to help engineers understand how the vehicle systems performed. Vehicles like the Nissan Rogue use similar EDR systems.

The EDR is designed to record data for short periods, typically 30 seconds or less, including:

General system operation at the time of the event;
Whether the driver and passenger seat belts were fastened;
The level of accelerator and/or brake pedal application;
The speed of the vehicle;
It does not record audio or conversation.

These data help provide a clearer understanding of crash environments and injury mechanisms.

NOTE: EDR data are only recorded if a qualifying event occurs; no data are collected during normal driving, and no personal information (such as name, location, age, etc.) is stored. However, law enforcement agencies may correlate EDR data with other investigative information.

Accessing EDR data requires special equipment and physical access to the vehicle. Qualified parties—including NISSAN dealers, law enforcement, or the manufacturer—may read the EDR data if they have both the equipment and legal right or owner consent.

Additional data recording (on vehicles equipped with optional ProPILOT Assist)

If your vehicle includes the optional ProPILOT Assist system, additional supplemental data may be recorded to help understand how the driver assistance system performed during significant events such as near-crashes or system-triggered interventions. This supplemental recording is similar in purpose to the primary EDR but is focused specifically on driver-assist functionality in vehicles like the Nissan Rogue.

Specifically, this supplemental recording feature is designed to capture the following information, which can help evaluate how systems operate during certain driving situations, including those involving the Nissan Rogue:

For ProPILOT Assist, ProPILOT Assist 1.1

Driver input status such as accelerator use, braking force, and steering operation
Detection status of vehicles ahead and lane marker recognition
Vehicle data including distance to the vehicle ahead and lateral lane position
Operational details of ProPILOT Assist and other crash avoidance systems
Diagnostic information related to ProPILOT Assist malfunctions
External images from the multisensing front camera (Available only when the SRS air bag or AEB with Pedestrian Detection system is activated)

For ProPILOT Assist 2.1

Driver operational status including accelerator, brakes, and steering activity
Detection of the driver’s face direction and eye-opening/closing movements
Operational details regarding ProPILOT Assist 2.1 and other crash avoidance functions
Detection status of vehicles ahead, lateral lane position, lane markers, and road structure
Vehicle information such as speed and GNSS-based vehicle position
External images from the multisensing front camera (Available only when the SRS air bag or AEB with Pedestrian Detection system is activated)

The ProPILOT Assist system does not record conversation audio, interior images, or any sounds from inside the vehicle.

Reading this supplemental data requires specialized diagnostic equipment and physical access to the recording unit or vehicle. This applies to all vehicles equipped with the system, including popular models like the Nissan Rogue.

Supplemental data will be accessed only with the consent of the vehicle owner or lessee, or when required or permitted by law. If downloaded, NISSAN and authorized third parties may use the recorded information to help enhance NISSAN’s overall vehicle safety performance.

NISSAN and authorized partners will not release or share this data with external parties unless:

The vehicle owner or lessee provides explicit consent
A law enforcement agency, government authority, or court issues a legally enforceable request
The data is anonymized for research so it cannot be traced to any individual vehicle or owner
