Freeing a frozen door lock
To help prevent a frozen door lock, apply deicer through the key hole before freezing occurs. If the lock becomes frozen, gently heat the key before inserting it into the key hole, or use the Intelligent Key system.
Anti-freeze
When outside temperatures are expected to drop below 32ºF (0ºC), check the anti-freeze concentration to ensure proper protection for winter driving.
Battery
If the battery is not fully charged in extremely cold weather, the battery fluid may freeze and cause damage. For maximum efficiency, have the battery checked regularly during winter months.
Draining of coolant water
If the vehicle must be left outside without anti-freeze protection, drain the cooling system including the engine block. Refill the system before operating the vehicle.
Tire equipment
Basic information
SUMMER tires are designed to deliver excellent performance on dry pavement. However, their performance is significantly reduced on snowy or icy roads. For winter driving, NISSAN recommends using MUD & SNOW or ALL SEASON tires on all four wheels. Consult a NISSAN dealer for information about proper tire size, type, speed rating, and availability.
For better traction on icy roads, studded tires may be used. Note that some U.S. states and Canadian provinces restrict or prohibit studded tire use. Always check local laws before installation.
Be aware that studded snow tires may provide poorer skid and traction performance on wet or dry pavement when compared to non-studded snow tires.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) model
When installing snow tires on AWD models, make sure all four tires are the same size, brand, construction and tread pattern.
Special winter equipment
It is recommended to keep the following items in the vehicle during winter:
Driving on snow or ice
WARNING
Try to avoid driving on wet ice until the road is treated with salt or sand.
Avoid braking or making sudden steering inputs while on the ice.
