Braking precautions
Basic information
The brake system uses two independent hydraulic circuits. If one circuit fails, braking at two wheels will still be available.
Vacuum assisted brakes
The brake booster enhances braking force using engine vacuum. If the engine stops, you can still brake by pressing the pedal, but braking effort will increase and stopping distance will be longer.
Using the brakes
Avoid resting your foot on the brake pedal while driving. Doing so overheats the brakes, causes premature wear and reduces fuel economy.
To help prevent brake overheating and reduce wear, slow down and shift to a lower gear before descending long or steep grades.
Overheated brakes reduce braking performance and may cause a loss of control.
WARNING
Abrupt braking or accelerating may cause wheel slip and result in an accident.
Wet brakes
When the vehicle is washed or driven through water, the brakes may become wet.
Wet brakes increase stopping distance and may cause the vehicle to pull to one side.
To dry the brakes, drive at a safe speed while lightly pressing the brake pedal to generate heat until braking returns to normal. Avoid high speeds until full braking efficiency is restored.
Parking brake break-in
Break in the parking brake pads whenever braking performance weakens, or when the parking brake pads, calipers or rotors are replaced, to ensure proper operation.
This procedure is documented in the service manual. It is recommended to have the Nissan Rogue serviced by a NISSAN dealer.
Electric power steering
Brake assistTire chains
Use of tire chains may be prohibited according to
location. Check the local laws before installing
tire chains. When installing tire chains, make sure
they are the proper size for the tires on your
vehicle and are installed according to the chain
manufacturer’s suggestions. Use only SAE
