Brake assist
When brake pedal force exceeds a certain threshold, Brake Assist activates to provide greater braking force than a conventional brake booster, even with relatively light pedal pressure.
WARNING
Brake Assist supports braking but does not replace careful driving. It is not a collision warning or avoidance system. The driver must remain alert, drive safely and stay in control of the Nissan Rogue at all times.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
Basic information
WARNING
Stopping distances on slippery, gravel, rough or snow-covered roads will still be longer—even with ABS. Maintain a safe following distance. Ultimately, the driver is responsible for safety.
The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps prevent the wheels of your Nissan Rogue from locking during hard braking or when braking on slippery surfaces. The system monitors each wheel’s rotation speed and adjusts brake fluid pressure accordingly to avoid wheel lock and sliding. By preventing lockup, ABS helps maintain steering control and reduces the likelihood of skidding, swerving, or spinning.
Using the system
Firmly depress the brake pedal and keep it pressed.
Apply steady, firm pressure to the brake pedal — do not pump the brakes.
The ABS will automatically operate to prevent wheel lockup. Continue steering the Nissan Rogue to avoid obstacles.

Do not pump the brake pedal. Pumping the brakes increases stopping distance.
Self-test feature
The ABS contains sensors, pumps, solenoids, and a computer. Every time you start the engine and move the vehicle slowly (forward or reverse), the system performs a self-test. During this test you may hear a “clunk” or feel a pulsation in the brake pedal. This is normal and not a malfunction.
If the system detects a malfunction, ABS is switched off and the ABS warning light illuminates. Normal braking remains available, but without anti-lock assistance.
If the ABS warning light illuminates during the self-test or while driving, have your Nissan Rogue inspected. A NISSAN dealer is recommended.
Normal operation
The ABS operates at speeds above approximately 3–6 MPH (5–10 km/h), depending on road conditions.
When ABS detects that one or more wheels are about to lock, the actuator rapidly applies and releases hydraulic pressure—similar to extremely fast brake pumping. You may feel pulsation or vibrations in the brake pedal and hear noise from under the hood as the system operates.
This indicates proper ABS function. However, the pulsation may also signal slippery road conditions, so exercise caution.
