WARNING
- Do not leave children, pets, or adults who require supervision alone inside the Nissan Rogue. Interior temperatures on hot days can rise quickly and lead to serious or fatal injuries.
- Secure all cargo with straps or ropes inside the Nissan Rogue to prevent items from shifting or sliding during sudden braking or a collision.
Exhaust gas (carbon monoxide)
WARNING
- Do not inhale exhaust gas; it contains carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, and deadly gas.
- If exhaust fumes are suspected inside the Nissan Rogue cabin, open all windows immediately and have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
- Do not run the engine in enclosed spaces such as garages.
- Avoid keeping the engine running while the Nissan Rogue is parked for extended periods.
- Keep the liftgate fully closed while driving to prevent exhaust gases from entering the cabin. If driving with the liftgate open, open all windows and set the ventilation system to draw outside air at maximum fan speed.
- If aftermarket accessories or recreational equipment are installed, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to prevent carbon monoxide from entering the Nissan Rogue interior.
- If wiring or cables must pass through body seals for towing or accessories, ensure proper sealing to avoid exhaust intrusion.
- Inspect the exhaust system whenever: the Nissan Rogue is lifted for service, exhaust odor is noticed, exhaust sound changes, or after rear-end or underbody damage.
Three-way catalyst
The three-way catalyst in the Nissan Rogue helps reduce harmful emissions by burning exhaust gases at high temperatures.
WARNING
- Exhaust components become extremely hot during operation. Keep flammable materials, people, and animals away from the exhaust area.
- Do not park the Nissan Rogue over dry grass, paper, or other flammable materials, as heat from the exhaust system may ignite them.
CAUTION
- Do not use leaded gasoline in the Nissan Rogue; it will damage the three-way catalyst and reduce its emission control effectiveness.
- Keep the engine properly maintained. Faults in ignition or fuel systems can cause unburned fuel to overheat the catalyst. If the engine misfires or performance drops, stop driving and have the Nissan Rogue inspected by a qualified technician.
- Avoid running the fuel tank extremely low, as this may cause misfires that can damage the catalyst.
- Do not race the engine during warm-up.
- Do not push- or tow-start the Nissan Rogue.
Turbocharger system
The Nissan Rogue turbocharger system relies on clean engine oil for lubrication and cooling. Its internal turbine spins at extremely high speeds and temperatures, requiring proper maintenance.
A sudden interruption of oil flow can cause severe turbocharger damage.
To ensure long service life and optimal performance of the Nissan Rogue turbocharger, follow these guidelines:
CAUTION
- Change the engine oil at the recommended intervals listed in the “Maintenance and schedules” section.
- Always use the recommended type and grade of engine oil for the Nissan Rogue.
- After driving at high rpm for extended periods, allow the engine to idle for a few minutes before shutting it off.
- Avoid revving the engine immediately after startup.
